Re: Recent Submissions: 2010 August 22-24
I really, really have to applaud George Georgatos' image of the Merope Nebula! :: :: ::
I so appreciate seeing this nebula in true color, that is, blue. Of course this nebula is blue for real. Reflection nebulae tend to be blue, and this is a reflection nebula, and reflection nebulae are always blue if they reflect the light of a blue star, and if they are unreddened. Merope is a blue star, and the Pleiades cluster is basically unreddened, so of course the Merope Nebula is blue!!! The Hubble Telescope took an awful picture of the Merope Nebula some years ago. I remember I wrote to the people responsible for coloring the image and told them that I hated it:
Note the barely blue nebula and the red(!!!) light from blue star Merope!!!!
So thank you, George Georgatos, for your image of the Merope Nebula!!!

And speaking of the color blue, that's a nice blue flash by Pierluigi Giacobazzi & Agnieszka Ruffini! ::

Speaking of color, I like José Francisco Hernández' Milky Way landscape, but the colors look weird. For example, the overall color of the sky is quite orange, but the mountain range in the background is quite blue.
The landscape doesn't look "real", but rather it looks like a weird fantasy world. But that doesn't have to be bad.

I find this to be very appealing... a very clear view of the blue flash and a strangely alien feel to it at the same time.
Just call me "geck" because "zilla" is like a last name.
