APOD 10th Anniversary: Congratulations

Post by alexac2 » Thu Jun 16, 2005 6:37 am

...and thanks for 10 years of APODs.

This is the best way to begin each day, for an amateur astronomer lost in a computer world. One quick look to the heavens to get perspective.

Thank you

I went to all that trouble (actually, not that much trouble) to register here just so that I too could say hurray for Robert and Jerry and here's to the next ten years of APOD - best - N

APOD makes the internet useful. I don't fully start my day until viewling the current picture and written information. It helps to put our life in perspective over the full universe view. Thanks!!

Robert and Jerry,

I've been starting my day with APOD image of the day since 1997.

Your work has some sort of magic that made every of those days a better day.

My sincere gratitude to you guys in this anniversar moment and for many years to come!

Congratulations from an appreciative fan. Viewing APOD everyday is like taking an astronomy course for me. And an excuse to stay up to 12 am.

I tell everyone that APOD is best website and here are the top 10 reasons.

1] Always interesting and informative

2] Always on topic

3] Always on format and comfortable to view.

4] Always heavily linked, allowing readers the choice of content depth.

5] Always uncluttered--no trashy graphics, banners, and ads.

6] Always accessible and fast loading.

7] Always fresh content.

8] Always beautiful.

9] Always organized for archive searches.

10] Always responsive to current events.

Consistency requires effort and clear thinking. The results at APOD obvious. I wish the NASA web people would learn by your example.

Happy tenth anniversary and a big thank you for enlightening my everyday Internet usage! I too have continuously recommended APOD to all my family members, friends, and relatives. Your concise explanations are a wonderful treat to read and they always contain links for further reading. The pictures are always surprising and generate ‘wows.’ Thank you very much for your informative and interesting teachings.

I would like to add to the previous comments that in addition to a fast download of APOD, even with a dialup modem, watching the previous pictures is really easy. Sometimes that I miss APOD for a few days, I could easily go back and look at it or at the previous ones as far back as I like.

Thanks a <insert your astronomical number here>!

Reflected glory

Post by eorourke1 » Thu Jun 16, 2005 3:44 pm

Thank you for the APOD site. It is my home page, and every day it is a stellar reminder of the glory of the Divine. How could anyone look at these images and not feel awe?

And -- your insights (and humor) are terrific! Congratulations on your ten years; I look forward to many more.

Thank you for 10 years. APOD is a fantastic resource and incredibly well done, all your hard work is appreciated by myself and billions of others! Your short explanations full of links sure are nice for a computer geek like myself who still wonders if he should've gone on to a PhD in Astro. Congratulations on 10 years, here's hoping the next 10 are just as amazing.

Thank you,
paul

Just wanted to add my voice to the chorus in congratulating both of you on a great website. Like many others, I begin my day by checking out the new APOD picture and description. Your wonderful pictures and plain english descriptions (along with the links for more info), elicit many emotions; from a since of wonder and awe to realization of just how small our planet is. Keep of the great work!

APOD & Way Back Machine

Post by maristoddard » Thu Jun 16, 2005 5:02 pm

Congratulations!

APOD is a significant contributor to the history of the Internet.
http://web.archive.org/

The earliest APOD in the Way Back Machine / Internet Archive I could find is
http://web.archive.org/web/199706050100 ... ropix.html

The earliest reference _to_ APOD in the Internet Archive that I could find was November 1996 - there's bound to be more in the 18 months before.

Ever since I discovered APOD a number of years ago, it has been my homepage -- it is so gorgeous! Sometimes I forward images to friends and families, and they are always astonished at the beauty of the universe. Thank you so much for all the effort you put into this site -- I look forward every day to the moment at 9 PM (I'm on the west coast) when the site changes to the next photo! :D

Thank you, Robert & Jerry! I don't know how I'd get through life (let alone each day) without knowing what's going on in the cosmos.

Thank you SO much! Keep it going on!

I too start each day with the APOD and not only does it bring perspective to a harried world, but reminds me of the all-important fact that we are not in charge! Many, many thanks...
