Barnard 344 is a dark nebula in the constellation of Cygnus. It’s located close to the star Sadr in the Gamma Cygni Nebula. Barnard 344 is located on the bottom of the image.

This region is very rich of dark and emission nebulae. On the image also VanDenBergh 130, a reflection nebula in this region, can be seen. LBN234 is an emission nebula glowing with hydrogen and sulphur.

The image shown here is very different from the ordinary images that you often see of nebulae because this image is fully taken in the deepred part of the spectrum. Images were made in Hydrogen-alpha (656nm), Sulfur (673nm) and Near-infrared (>807nm). They were combined in a Spitzer satellite like palet that is often used for infrared imagery.

Near infrared = red
Hydrogen alpha = green
SII (sulphur) = blue

Camera: QSI-583
Mount: Skywatcher NEQ-6

H-alpha: 6 x 1800 s (3nm astrodon)
SII: 3 x 1800 s (3nm astrodon)
Near infrared: 4 x 300 s (Baader 807nm Ir-pass)

Actually vdB130 isn't visible as you can't see reflection nebulae in a narrowband image unless it also has a few hours of LRGB.

No, it's not Photoshop: the picture is for real and was shot for the Saturn Mosaic Project. This Tyrannosaurus Rex is a full scale display, part of a dinosaur exhibit held at the "Clore Garden of Science" (http://davidson.weizmann.ac.il/en/science-garden), the open-air science museum of the Weizmann Institute of Science (http://www.weizmann.ac.il/), Rehovot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rehovot), Israel. Arcturus is well visible on the top right hand corner, while Spica teases the throat of the beast. The model is equipped with a presence detector which triggers furious hand waving and roaring when someone dares approaching. It had to be blinded out by the photographer.

Driving around Zion at night was one of the hardest things to do for me. The milky way was shining so bright that it made it difficult to keep my eyes on the road.Here is a photo of the Milky Way over Zion's Mount Carmel Highway. The lit up peak in the distance is "The Watchmen" which is being up naturally from the little town of Springdale which is near the park's entrance. The road is being lit up by my headlamp. The green you see in the sky is "Airglow."

Life can be a very chaotic thing. Some things live for millions of years while some only live for seconds. But in reality, life expectancy can never truly be predicted. Never take life for granted.

Caption: In the image we could see the moonset (almost like the sunset, with an orange tone) reflected in the Alqueva´s Lake water, where is located the old: "Fonte da Manivela" or in English the source crank. The image was captured in Mourão, a region of the great Alqueva Dark Sky Reserve. At the first sight, we could think that it wasn´t the moon, but maybe the Sun, so, how could we have sure ? First, because during the sunset we couldn´t see the stars and the sky so dark due to our atmosphere effect. And the most important, if you look carefully in full resolution, you will notice that the moon wasn´t completely full, in fact, due to an Earthshine effect, is also visible part of the moon´s left limb that is in the shadow (not directly illuminated by the sun), something that will not occur in the sun´s surface.

Caption: I went to Uludağ National Park near Bursa, Turkey for two mornings to catch Mars and Jupiter together. I want to submit these pictures for APOD.

The first morning, 21st July, had better skies, but I was not able to reach the point I wanted on time, so I stopped at another place close to the ski resort. The pair was fairly easy to see and looked really eye catching.
I went up the mountain again this morning, 22nd, and this time I reached my planned spot with time to spare. The sky was cloudy and there was some wind also, which carried the clouds in and out of the way.

This is from Bakacak Peak, literally meaning "The Lookout". The elevation is 1734 meters, and the place has a good view of Bursa on the plain, about 1600 meters below. Mars-Jupiter pair cleared the clouds over the horizon around the beginning of morning twilight.

With just a 85 mm lens, a few stars of M35 becomes visible. The cluster is a few degrees west of the pair. Thanks to the elevation, the clouds did not block the view, unlike in the city.

Jupiter, Mars and M35. Ganymede and Europa are visible to the east of Jupiter and also Callisto to the west. Despite the twilight getting stronger, the open cluster shows up nicely.
In a few days, Mercury will also gain altitude and become visible together with Jupiter and Mars in the dawn sky. The Moon will also pass by the three on 4th and 5th August. I hope to catch them all, if all goes well.

Caption: a recently obtained panorama of the very dark night sky taken from a 8000 feet summit in Atacama desert. This is an excellent example that even in such extremely remote and isolated places, the color of the night sky is never black. The are many components (airglow, dust, zodiacal light, etc..) which contribute to the final color. In the foreground one can see the rocks of the desert, what makes the panorama looks like a Mars surface. The Zodiacal light is spanning across the whole image and makes the perfect arc.

I would like to submit my photograph of yesterday's Full Thunder Moon rising over the Jan Zizka statue in Prague. Taken with an MTO 1000mm on a Canon 5D2. Have been trying to get this framing for years and it finally worked out.

The full moon is photographed here over the crater of Piton de la Fournaise and crossing the belt of Venus. It is a composite of 11 images. The lunar landscape in the foreground is the Plaine des Sables, created by the eruption of Piton Chisny which the first slopes can be seen to the right of the image.

This is the western view of Perth’s CBD a minute before sunset (skyscrapers flooded by the last light from “red” Sun), with rising orange full Moon, and eastern sky also reddish.
The redness of the eastern sky was disappearing with every second and the colour become dark-grey just a couple of minutes later.

Last Sunday, a major thunderstorm came into our city and gave us a spectacular view which reminded me the laser shows of Jean Michelle Jarre! While talking the images, I couldn't hide my enthusiasm every time a bolt was grounded to the mountains above the city. The image is a composition of more than 100 images with 10sec exposure time and it was made form the port of Thessaloniki Greece.
