You don't have to guess the forum, because the notifying email tells you which it is.

The error message you get happens because the post you are being directed to no longer exists. In most cases, it means a moderator has removed it for a rule violation or some other reason. Of course, this removal happens after the email notification has been automatically sent. Since the post ID in the link is either deleted or blocked from view, the system gives you the authorization warning. This is by design, and doesn't reflect any sort of problem.

I can update that message to be a little less confusing, I think.

I assume the messages are just flagged, not actually deleted from the database, meaning anybody with the right permissions can still see them. Thus, the default "not authorized" message, rather than "the message no longer exists". But it would be nice to change the message, since it is confusing (and this isn't the first time the question has come up).

Ah,so!

Thank you, Chris.
It would be good if the message could changed to "new post removed by moderator" or similar.

John

"Deleted" messages are actually very rarely deleted. I personally only delete accidental duplicate posts, though I can't speak for the other admins. So nearly all of them are actually moved into a hidden section of the forum just in case they were erroneously moved or in case the other admins want to take a look. Spam goes into yet another hidden forum and gets pruned every few weeks.

Now you understand why you get that message sometimes and why it would be incorrect to state that they were removed but, rather, probably removed, hehe... There are some naughty users out there I'm sure who actually try to access the off limits areas on purpose and the original message is intended for them. In any case, I did update the message.
You are not authorised to read this forum, possibly because a post or topic was moved out of the public section of the forum.

Hello,

The RSS feed stop updating. The last entry is from Nov 4, 2011.

Also some readers have problems because of the way the last entry is setup. The last entry always points to the main page and after a day it gets updated to the archive URL. Some readers identify the change as another entry entry (akregator), some readers will skip the last entry (google reader). I think readers will work better if the last entry points to the archive URL from the beginning, but I guess it depends if the last entry can have an archive URL from the start.

Thank you,
Eduardo

Yeah, there is currently something wrong with APOD which caused it to stop automatically updating, elara. APODs have been put up manually but some things (like thumbnails and your RSS feed) haven't been.

Can we get the [strike][/strike] BBCode added to the forum? I occasionally like to use it.

Thanks. All the BBCode references I've seen have it as [strike] (presumably because it mirrors the HTML <strike>). But your version will do just fine.

I like the middle ages with the inches, feet, yards, miles, pints, quarts and gallons. All this new-fangled metric stuff is tooo complicated :!:

Am i the only one that finds the Asterisk* computer to be somewhat slower than molasses most of the time today?? I had one post with a picture that was so slow, that i thought i was going to fall asleep before it finished posting. Even changing forums can be really slow.

Hi...please make it easier to pass on APOD to FB and Twitter et al. Most sites have a link that makes it a one-click thing to spread the APOD to FB.
Please? We were good. :-D

It's very easy to pass on APOD from FB; the APOD FB page is here: http://www.facebook.com/AstronomyPictureOfTheDay
