The link to the Automatic Backgrounder Program on the About Page is broken:
http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/lib/about_apod.html
http://asterisk.apod.com/software/apod/
Is there an update for this program?

APOD does not at this time offer one.

The "previous" button on today's (1/28) APOD post points to the URL for tomorrow's dated picture: http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap130129.html

This had been fixed by the time I read this report.Keyman wrote:The "previous" button on today's (1/28) APOD post points to the URL for tomorrow's dated picture: http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap130129.html
Just call me "geck" because "zilla" is like a last name.

Spelling mistake in Apod?
Tomorrow's picture: braking news on Russian meteor
From the text of today's Apod
http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html
I think that the correct spelling should be 'breaking' - unless a pun of some sort is intended?

Yes, it's a play on words, since meteors slow down quickly upon entering the atmosphere. And lest you think me clever enough to have picked up on that, the thought had not occurred to me at all; the APOD editor responsible had to point it out to me!

Ah ha! A bit subtle - but the best puns always are.

Yes, well, two days after the event could hardly be called "Breaking News".

Why couldn't I post?
I tried to post a reply to today's APOD, the Asperatus Cloud, but I was told that my message contained too few characters.
What does that mean? What did I do wrong?
Ann
EDIT: I changed a picture I had chosen, and then I could post.
But what does the message mean in itself, "Your post contains too few characters"?

Re: Why couldn't I post?
Generally it means you didn't have any content in the body of the post, however, in this case, it was probably caused by an error in your post that caused the parser to not recognize the rest of the content of the post.Ann wrote:I tried to post a reply to today's APOD, the Asperatus Cloud, but I was told that my message contained too few characters.

Re: Bugs? Problems? Report them here!
Could some one tell me how - or if - one can get the img3 tag to work? I am assuming that it produces a smaller image in the post than img3. Is that correct?
This is to demonstrate what happens, using this image from Wikipedia simply for demonstration purposes
First, using the img2 tag: Now, using the img3 tag:
I noticed that the img3 tag has an "=" sign and the img2 tag doesn't. I experimented with removing that "=" sign, but still drew a blank.
Like this:

All elucidation gratefully received!

<img3> allows you to include an explanation to the image. The explanation goes after the "=" enclosed in quotes.

APOD web page misdirecting to Asterisk
The "Discuss" button on the APOD page should link to the Asterisk page where that APOD is discussed.
At present it links to the discussion of the previous day's APOD.
This has been so for at least two days!

Re: Bugs? Problems? Report them here!
Correct. There is no valid certificate issued for apod.com, so any pages that you attempt to access securely will generate a certificate error unless you add an exception- which you can safely do. Really, the link should not have included the secure protocol at all; http://asterisk.apod.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=22034 will do just fine.Beyond wrote:Hi ya, O' Guardian of the Codes.
