owlice wrote:Beyond, I watched the video; my son, also sitting here in the living room with his laptop, said the singer "still sounds like a Smurf." This (amused and) surprised me, so I asked him, "Do you know who this singer is?" "Yes.... Neil Young." :-D "No," said I. "Oh god... you means there's another one who sounds like a Smurf??"
I have no idea what a smurf sounds like, but I'm guessing it isn't a compliment.

John Denver is great... one of those singers whose songs define a place and time. But to not appreciate Neil Young seems to me as indicative of a lack of musical aptitude or experience as not appreciating any of the Bachs...
Oh, I haven't checked this thread in so long... Sounding like a smurf is definitely not a compliment!! :lol2: He appreciates Bach and plays guitar, built a mountain dulcimer and plays it, and has taken hammered dulcimer, bagpipe, and percussion lessons. Not appreciating Neil Young, though... just do not get that at all.

John Denver's music mostly all sounds the same, and I say this as someone who really likes the music. And I love his voice; such a sweet, smooth high tenor, and all in my range! :D
geckzilla wrote:Owlice, is he listening to death metal? My brother listens to that. I've heard him try to sing before and I'm not sure exactly what it means to be tone deaf but I think he might be.
I don't know how the Finnish growling over a drumbeat would be classified, except by me: Bad. Not music. Awful.

Adams I don't have... off to Amazon.
Owlice, why and or how come, this post is labeled "Re: What did you see in the sky tonight?"

That would be because you somehow managed to change the title three months ago (on August 3), probably by some poor cutting and pasting. Or maybe, by posting in a different thread and having it moved by a moderator?

Likely the latter.

I don't change titles. The conversation that developed in the "what did you see in the sky last night", was moved to this music thread (which i can't do). Owlice's quote of "Chris, those are lovely", is in the "what did you see in the sky last night". Don't know if i remember correctly, but it seems to me there was more that got moved, then shows up in the music thread. But only the one who moved it really knows. I'm just wondering how come it got moved after all this time?

::EDIT:: Well, i see owlice has silently flown in with the answer while i was busy doing this post.

You can find the post that you originally responded to in the "sky" forum. Since you responded with a song, it got moved to the "music" forum, and the original title got moved with it. From then on, all the regular responses just propagated that incorrect title along. The fact that it went three months without notice just goes to show how much we all pay attention to topic titles.

Topical, but weird. Astronomy-inspired love song? Woodkid makes some really neat music videos but he didn't make one for this song. Too bad.

Oh, Orin, I was just thinking of that!. It's one of my favourite songs. But it chokes me up now, since my little cat, Elvira, was killed last December. The lead singer could be a male human version of my Elvira - so full of bounce and joy.

I enjoy all types of music with the exception of most country and most modern rap. My primary go to music is heavy metal and I probably listen to way too much of it way too loud for a man of my age. :P
Nontheless, I certainly wont try to sway anyone over to my bands but here is one song I think is long and could be appreciated by members of this forum:

Heavy metal as a genre is only a little older than you so actually there are probably a lot of 40-year-olds who like it and that is something I can corroborate with my known acquaintances. Metal falls firmly into the "I don't get it" category for me, though.

Because I’m not that into music, and because I didn’t know how. For anyone not familiar with Saturday Night Live the “I need more cowbell” is from a classic SNL skit. (If neufer wasn’t on semi-strike right now he may have posted it for us. Oh well.) It’s also an inside joke since I used to work on a large dairy farm that had over 3000 cows at one point during my tenure there. Nice Brown Swiss Beyond. The dairy I worked at (as office manager) had Jerseys, but not a single cowbell, dang it!

My wife and I like watching The Voice, and we’re casual country fans. Here’s a cowboy version of “The Galaxy Song” that y’all might like. (The video is weak, but the lyrics are cool.)
