The chromosphere is a place of high solar activity. In the course of a few minutes we can observe changes in the ejecta and prominences, in the path of the filaments, and as matter flows following very characteristic arches. Chromosphere is also visible in the light emitted by the ionized calcium, in the violet part of the solar spectrum in a wavelength of 393.4 nm. It is Calcium K line. This light comes from calcium atoms that have lost an electron.

Saturn, Moons Tethys, Enceladus

Saturn now within days of opposition its ring has brighten more due to the Seeliger Effect and its hexagon northern pole shows well. Also two two of its principle moons are visible Tethys top left and Enceladus bottom right of the rings. (Equpment: LX200ACF 12 in. OTA, CGE mount, Flea3 Ccd, TeleVue 3x barlows, Astronomik LRGB filter set.

Before the eclipse

Here is a shot taken just 1 hour before the partial eclipse, during a flight between Tangier and Paris. Thanks to the atmospheric refraction, both the Sun and the Full Moon were visible simultaneously, in addition with the Venus belt.

The International Space Station is a habitable artificial satellite in low Earth orbit. The ISS is a modular structure whose first component was launched in 1998. Like many artificial satellites, the station can be seen with the naked eye from Earth without any special equipment. The ISS consists of pressurised modules, external trusses, solar arrays and other components. ISS components have been launched by American Space Shuttles as well as Russian Proton and Soyuz rockets.

Partial Lunar Eclipse from Ukraine 2013 April 25

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes directly behind the Earth into its umbra (shadow). This can occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are aligned (in "syzygy") exactly, or very closely so, with the Earth in the middle. Hence, a lunar eclipse can only occur the night of a full moon. The type and length of an eclipse depend upon the Moon's location relative to its orbital nodes. Unlike a solar eclipse, which can only be viewed from a certain relatively small area of the world, a lunar eclipse may be viewed from anywhere on the night side of the Earth. A lunar eclipse lasts for a few hours, whereas a total solar eclipse lasts for only a few minutes at any given place, due to the smaller size of the moon's shadow. Also unlike solar eclipses, lunar eclipses are safe to view without any eye protection or special precautions, as they are no brighter (indeed dimmer) than the full moon itself.

Eclipsed Moon over Stockholm

A wonderful, partialy eclipsed Moon rising over Stockholm on the 25th of April.
Because of the passing clouds the eclipse was not visually very evident. It was more sensed by a slightly dimmed luminosity.
