Happy 18th Birthday Astronomy Picture of the Day! You have been my home page ever since discovering you 16 years ago. My thanks to all who work so very hard in bringing APOD into my home. You are greatly appreciated. I have learned so much and have been able to see our universe through your eyes. Here's to experiencing glorious outer space and all its treasures together for many years to come!

How can one picture a day amount to over a billion picture in 18 years? You must miscalculate the number!
There's several orders of magnitude difference!

Wow - eighteen years! 1995 seems so long ago.

I am humbled to see that images credited to me, taken with equipment ranging from HST down to a 35mm camera using actual film, have shown up over the years something like 50 times (many in the early days when there was not the stiff and skilled "amateur" competition of today).

Keep it up, APOD folks, contributors, and Universe which is endlessly fascinating at all wavelengths!

You are my home page and so the first image I see when I open my laptop, you have awed me for years and I have seen every picture back to first one.

Some I return to fairly often, like the scale of the Universe video, the Everest 360 degree picture, and also the comparison images of the stars showing the Sun as a speck compared to Arcturus...

So, I wish you many many happy returns and hope to see many thousand more images from my beloved APOD...

Also, If you consider that many if not most of the images displayed as APOD's are either mosaics of numerous stitched images like the MARS panoramas and galactic center of over 2000 images or stacked images like the analemma which combine 36 images These types of images greatly increase the total image count though they are presented as a single image
