Given that most downloads will be non-US, and we don't use US letter paper, how about an option of A4 paper for printing (one would expect astromners in the US to realise that there is a world beyond the US borders, even if micro$oft doesn't).

As previously noted, you can print the calendar on A4 paper just fine. It's unreasonable to expect the calendar to be designed in two completely different formats since the two are so similar that documents in either format can be printed on either size of paper. Stylistically, document designed for A-size paper usually look better on A4 paper than do A4 documents printed on A-size. So if you're only going to offer one format, A-size is usually a better choice.

(Why do you think that there will be more non-US downloads?)

We don't have any download statistics beyond simple number of downloads. Based on what Google analytics says about general forum usage, though, the assertion that most of our downloads come from outside the US is most definitely false. US visits account for the most visits from any one country by a very wide margin.

Fun fact: Neither inches nor centimeters were used as my unit of choice for page layout. I used picas.

Thank you to the crew for this, it's great!

Happy holidays and a great 2014!

PS: I live outside the US and we have letter, A4 and all kinds of paper sizes here too...

Thanks a lot for the calendar.

It appears that while all the links for 2014 point to the APOD from that date in 2013, the links on the December 2013 page point to the APODs from 2011 instead of 2012. Am I misunderstanding something?

I sincerely hope that this continues beyond 2014. While I am not an astronomer nor a photographer, I do enjoy the work of both.

Thanks again. Everyone did a wonderful job.

Oh, December 2014 has December 2012's APODs since 2013's December APODs didn't exist when I made the calendar. To avoid repeats, I used 2011 for the December 2013 month. I actually managed to confuse my self several times in the process, too.

There appears to be a typo in the 2015 "mini" calendar. The 30th of the month is not listed and the 31st appears twice.

Hi -

I'm having a problem printing the photos. I'm getting stripes that run top to bottom in the landscape format. The stripes are about 1" wide portions of the photo that are darker or lighter than each other. They don't affect the content of the photos, but the brightness and contrast varies from stripe to stripe. Any ideas? I've tried .pdf, I tried opening it with Internet Explorer and get the same results. I'm trying to open it in Firefox now.

Thanks,

Torillion

It's probably something to do with your printer, Torillion. The file is the same file regardless of which program you use to open it with. If there is a support website for your printer model, you might try that. Otherwise, you could also try another printer.

Superb job, peoples. As a life-long proof-reader (what an exciting way to spend an incarnation, eh?) I would point out one incey-wincey typo in case that page is carried over to next year's calendar (you never know, it might!). On Page 28/30 in the calendar for 2015, what should be May 30 is printed as May 31.

Thanks, though that was caught a few posts up. Unfortunately it's just going to have to be in this year's calendar.

The imagery is identical, but the calendar is different, and the files are different. The symbols for waxing and waning half moons for the Southern Hemisphere are the opposite of those for the Northern Hemisphere.

plaetus wrote:A suggestion for future calendars, and I have no idea how difficult this would be, if even possible: A note on each day we have a significant NASA event, like project completions, launches, landings, flybys, etc.
Sorry but I have to disagree. The calendar should be pure astronomy and not specific to any institution. Even though I agree NASA has made great contributions, I do not want to follow NASA's yearly schedule. All I want to do is enjoy the astronomy. If NASA fans want this, they can work with the calendar creators to produce a separate version with NASA events. Such events should definitely not be in the default calendar IMO.

Ahhhh, I'm pretty sure the calendar creators are NASA fans.... (just sayin')
