We saw these clouds on August 12 at Mt. Chokai in Yamagata Prefecture, Japan. Obviously there are some strong winds up there on the mountain in the upper photo and that is causing a - what - to happen please.
In the lower photo these clouds appear to be close to mammatus clouds, right? But, probably not? A typhoon had just passed by and the effects were still lingering, so of course there were and still are strong winds happening in both of these photos.
I used the upper photo in a mouseover image on my latest home page at http://danwiz.com.
Help with names of clouds please.

Re: Help with names of clouds please.
For the bottom one, check out Undulatus asperatus.

The top one looks like a combination of lenticular and cumulus formations. As with many things, it may not fit neatly into a certain category.

Just call me "geck" because "zilla" is like a last name.

Thanks very much for your help. Yes, I looked at the link you recommended and they look very similar.geckzilla wrote:For the bottom one, check out Undulatus asperatus.
