"Trifid" means "divided into three lobes". This 5200 light-years distant nebula's three lobes include the emission nebula (in red), the reflection nebula (in blue) and the dark nebula (the dark lines of gas between and within the red).

The object is an unusual combination of an open cluster of stars; an emission nebula (the lower, red portion), a reflection nebula (the upper, blue portion) and a dark nebula (the apparent 'gaps' within the emission nebula that cause the trifurcated appearance.

Find the Trifid in Sagittarius near the intersection of the ecliptic (path of the sun through the sky) and the galactic equator -- it is visible using an OIII filter in scopes as small as 3 inches.

This is a new image based on data from five different systems, comprising over 32 hours of integration from dark skies in New Mexico and Australia.

Oh, I'm so glad to see that new galaxy image by Adam Block! :D :jumping up and down:

What is so wonderful about Adam is that he keeps photographing the neglected galaxies, those that no one has ever heard of. In fact, I think Adam himself got the designation of one of the galaxies wrong - they should be UGC 480 and PGC 2627.

In any case, I had never heard of these two galaxies, and I love the appearance of them. Adam is, of course, an absolute master at bringing out the splendid RGB appearances of galaxies.

Thanks for opening up more splendid sky for me, Adam!

The Nature of Time

Image one, was done using a Nikon, I builded a Panorama, one image for the ground and one image for the sky with star trails.

Image two, The cow, this was using a Canon in a diferrent day, with moon light just days before the last full moon of the year.

Then I blended the images and get this amazing and one of my favorites universe earth convination scene.

This is a collaboration of The Pleiades with data from Kim Quick of Florida and myself.
Kim collected 5 hours of LRGB using a Takahashi FSQ106/ST11000 remotely from New Mexico Skies with my 4 hours of LRGB data using the QHY11S/Takahashi E180 and my earlier data using a QHY9M/TMB92S
Total integration time 13 + hours

Sharpless2-185 / IC 69+63
http://www.astrofotos.at
Copyright: Robert Pölzl
High up in Cassiopeia there are some interesting astronomical Objects - one of them is the Nebula Sharpless 185 (they are named at IC 59 + IC 63)
Its not easy to capture this field because the 2,15mag brigth star "Gamma Cassiopeia" is a star what makes a challange for the optical system.

In the Image you can see the RGB Data in combinantion with 7nm h-AlphaBest regards from austria
