That's a fantastic image, John Taylor. So good that I looked up the date and time. I think it shows Ganymede occulting Io, on 2015-03-10, at 06:35 UT. North pole is up and image is mirrored left-to-right.

Milky Way over erupting Volcano

Composition, one exposure for the land and tree stacked exposures for the Sky, the land image contains 6 Volcanoes of the Guatemalan Volcanic chain, Acatenango, Agua, Fuego (Erupting in the image), Volcanoes that are beside the Atitlan Lake. The image was taken at the top of Volcan Santa María that is over 3700 meters above the sea level. The image for the ground was shoot at 2:52 and the exposures for the sky (images stacked in photoshop) where taken around 3:11 am. The wind speed was really bad and also the temperature was really low, around -3 o or -4 degrees, plus oxigen at that altitud is low, I was impressed by seeing light pollution from above. Both images same night 02/28/2015. I consider this image a personal favorite because it is really not easy to climb this volcanoe with photograph equipment :), the view was amazing, I was alone during the astrphoto session, it was intense due to the weather conditions.

Twilight Aurora
Copyright: György Soponyai

On the evening of the total solar eclipse in Spitsbergen around 21:30 a very impressive Aurora Borealis was visible. At that time the Sun was shining 9 degrees below the horizon -- it was nautical twilight then. The Adventtoppen mountain (786 meter) is illuminated by the Western-Northwestern horizon from the back, the difference of brightness of the mountain sides is obvious. The foreground is painted orange by the lights of the nearby Longyearbyen Airport.
