In this early spring nightscape image, the northern hemisphere's "Summer" Milky Way rises just before dawn over a lake still frozen after a long winter, the constellations of Sagittarius and Scorpius shining brightly on the horizon.
This image also is showing Nova Sagittarii 2015 No. 2 (cross hairs), and was taken on March 29th at 5:00am EDT. (Nova was discovered on March 15th.)
Also of note, in this image there is a wanderer. The whitish object at the top of Scorpius is in fact Saturn.
Shot with a Nikon D800, 24-70 f/2.8 lens @ 24mm and f/3.5, the brightest stars are enhanced by the use of a softening filter.
Location: North shore of Lake Ontario near Kingston.
