It was built in the early 16th century in Portuguese Manueline style and since 1983 it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its significant role played in the Portuguese maritime discoveries of the era of the Age of Discoveries.

With both clear skies and a geomagnetic storm predicted for September 28th, I headed to southern Saskatchewan. Grasslands National Park is a long ways from anywhere. During the day the landscape seems stark and desolate, especially after a very dry summer. But the real beauty of this park comes after sunset. It is one of the darkest places in North America. With no sources of light pollution at all, the stars appear the same as they did to the Plains Indians centuries ago. The aurora was already bright and colorful earlier in the evening. But at midnight after the moon had set, the northern lights went insane. I've never seen such rapid motion before. If you could imagine a campfire with the flames rising upward and flickering on and off, that's what it looked like. Except instead of orange, it was green, and instead of it being confined to a fire ring, it filled the entire sky. I don't think any camera could fully capture it, it simply has to be experienced.

IC63 is illuminated by the B0 IV star, Gamma Cas. IC63 can be referred to as a "cometary cloud" and is pointing toward Gamma Cas. IC63 has bright filaments that are ionized fronts of gas created by Gamma Cas, and seen by us as nearly edge-on. There is some discussion in professional circles as to whether the Ha signal we pick up is actual emission from the nebula or reflection of the Ha emitted from Gamma Cas that is scattered by the dust in IC63. Multiwavelength spectroscopic analysis is the means to resolve this issue, and much of this lies in the realm of professional equipment and analysis.

The Soap Bubble Nebula PN G75.5+1.7

This is an image from Stellar Winds Observatory at DSNM, Animas, New Mexico
I was really surprised that with RGB data only i could see a nice image of the soap bubble, i guess 24" scope gathers a lot of light! This object has been on my list for some time but then Sakib Rasool reminded me to image it. Most of the images i have seen of this were more in the narrow-band format so i wanted to do a 6 filter with the RGB color format.

This version is however with 6 filters Exposure: L,R,G,B,HA,03 210,210,210,210,630,720

Captured in late September at Fall Creek Falls, State Park, Tennessee. It was a beautiful night to capture Messier 33, The Triangulum Galaxy through the trees. I plan to image it throughout the fall.
