Creature Aurora Over Norway

Explanation: It was Halloween and the sky looked like a creature. Exactly which creature, the astrophotographer was unsure but (possibly you can suggest one). Exactly what caused this eerie apparition in 2013 was sure: one of the best auroral displays in recent years. This spectacular aurora had an unusually high degree of detail. Pictured here, the vivid green and purple auroral colors are caused by high atmospheric oxygen and nitrogen reacting to a burst of incoming electrons. Birch trees in Tromsø, Norway formed an also eerie foreground. Recently, new photogenic auroras have accompanied new geomagnetic storms.

The serpent Midgaurd. It's an interesting thought I had never considered about the origins of ancient myths of fantastic creature originated from. In a primitive person's eye this would certainly inspire fear and wonder and would require an explanation that would fit into their understanding of the world filled with wolves bears reptiles birds and whatever sea creatures they encountered in real life.

A cosmic creature, with the body of a shark and the tail of an eel. The tail has breached the surface, and is sending splashes of electrons everywhere.

It's an elusive cosmic swordfish that has breached Earth''s atmosphere for a short time.
