APOD: Lines of Time (2019 Dec 07)

Post by APOD Robot » Sat Dec 07, 2019 5:06 am

Image Lines of Time

Explanation: In time stars trace lines through the night sky on a rotating planet. Taken over two hours or more, these digitally added consecutive exposures were made with a camera and wide angle lens fixed to a tripod near Orel farm, Primorsky Krai, Russia, planet Earth. The stars trail in concentric arcs around the planet's south celestial pole below the scene's horizon, and north celestial pole off the frame at the upper right. Combined, the many short exposures also bring out the pretty star colours. Bluish trails are from stars hotter than Earth's Sun, while yellowish trails are from cooler stars. A long time ago this tree blossomed, but now reveals the passage of time in the wrinkled and weathered lines of its remains.

“A long time ago this tree blossomed, but now reveals the passage of time in the wrinkled and weathered lines of its remains.”......you guys write so well. The text is often as inspiring as the images.

I'm wondering about when this time series was taken, and from what latitude. Clues include at least three meteors (left side of image) pointing toward the same radiant and that it was taken from a farm somewhere in Primorsky Krai, Russia. That area of Russia spans latitudes 42 to 48 in the far southeastern corner of Siberia.

Well. Given that the celestial equator is at 45° to the horizon, that defines the latitude.

Van Gogh would have been envious. Might this art work be entitled 'ENTROPY'!

Only for those who have straight lines of spindle cell empathy for enthalpy.

Examples include dolphins saving humans from drowning or from shark attacks. Professor Tom White suggests that reports of cetaceans having three times as many spindle cells—the nerve cells that convey empathy—in their brains as we do might mean these highly-social animals have a great awareness of one another's feelings.>>

The tree looks like an owl, and its stripes look like the paths of the stars....could these be secrets of the Universe?

Awesome...the colors blending around are cool...

Even a dead old Russian tree stump has a purpose... juxtapose against the sky for contrast, and representation of "time"...

To me the curved piece on the left, looks like a feline, leaning against the owl, looking up to the stars WITH the Owl...
