The Elephant’s Trunk nebula (van den Bergh 142) is part of the emission nebula IC 1396. It is approximately 3,000 light years from Earth in the constellation of Cepheus. The Elephant Trunk is a site of star formation, containing several stars that may be only 100,000 years old.
This is a two-panel mosaic photographed between 25 July and 16 August 2020 from a rig in Spain that is privately owned and operated by Barry Wilson and me.

Capture details are as follows:

Mount: 10 Micron GM2000HPS

Ha: 48 x 1200s

This is my first trial on submitting an image. It is the image of the Tadpole Nebula. Hoping that you may enjoy it.

Tadpole nebula is a tricky object. It contains lots of nebulosity and details that make difficulties in balancing the entire image. This version is my latest re-processing as a kind of trade-off between details and subjects

My first submission is of the eastern veil nebula. Taken at Lebanon Pennsylvania on 19 Aug using an Orion 115mm triplet refractor and ZWO ASI 294 camera on an Orion Atlas mount. I used a combination of HA and OIII filters during the 6.5 hours of total exposure.

The Cretaceous–Paleogene (K–Pg) extinction event, also known as the Cretaceous–Tertiary (K–T) extinction, was a sudden mass extinction of three-quarters of the plant and animal species on Earth, approximately 66 million years ago. With the exception of some ectothermic species such as the sea turtles and crocodilians, no tetrapods weighing more than 25 kilograms (55 pounds) survived.

It marked the end of the Cretaceous period, and with it the end of the entire Mesozoic Era, opening the Cenozoic Era that continues today besides inspite of the Covid-19.

After 66 Million years ago the humans still alive!!

A line on Jupiter -- impact scars?

Dark diagonal streak on Jupiter, oriented 11 o'clock to 5 o'clock, as observed on 2020-08-20 at around 1900Z. Could it be impact scars? Hungarian amateur colleagues confirmed the feature, it's not an artifact.
It could also be a coincidental alignment of darker spots in Jupiter's atmosphere -- I don't have enough data (it's been raining the past week).

During our vacation in Croatia we were not very lucky on the clear night sky. It wasn't until 5 days later that the sky finally cleared, so we weren't lazy and set off for the coast of Murtarić near Tisno, where we took this beautiful photo. At first we experimented a bit with the settings, but in the end everything turned out absolutely great!

This very popular region in the constellation Cygnus is full of Hydrogen and Oxygen emissions. This is a panoramic view starting at the Cygnus wall on the left.
The image is taken during multiple nights in August 2020 from Linz, a city in Austria, Bortle 6.

Copyright: Drew Sullivan After a long dry spell numerous lightning strikes have caused multiple large, converging fires in Northern California. There are so many and they are so large that all firefighting resources are in use, and there are no reserves. Those fires in the SF Bay area are still "Zero percent contained" after several days.

One is in the vicinity of Mt Hamilton and Lick Observatory. With a heroic effort firefighters have, so far, saved the historic Lick refractor, with which Barnard discovered a moon of Jupiter (the first person since Galileo to do so), the 120" reflector, the planetary survey scope and many other instruments.

Nearby to the west another fire in the Santa Cruz mountains threatens UC Santa Cruz (where the faculty for Lick work) and has caused the abandonment of many of the small mountain communities around Santa Cruz.

This image is of sunset, Aug 22 looking to the west.

Even the sun weeps.

Addendum:
UC Santa Cruz, where Sandy Faber worked, has now been evacuated.

THE PIPE NEBULA


Dark nebulae are a show apart. In the central region of the milky way, it presents the pipe nebula, composed of the dark nebulae B59, B72, B77 and B78.
The Pipe Nebula is part of the dark cloud complex of Ophiuchus with a distance of approximately 450 light years on Earth.
