ImageSun in H-Alpha - December 27th 2020 by Alessandro Carrozzi, su Flickr

The Sun in H-Alpha taken on December 27, 2020. The image is a 2-panel mosaic showing the active regions AR 2794 and 2795 and a large prominence on the edge. Notable detail is the larger sunspot of AR 2795, which was captured while it was splitting in two.

Newbie here - first time to visit Starship Asterisk*, so I hope this is the correct place to submit an image that people would consider for APOD.

I'm sure a lot of people have already posted images of Jupiter and Saturn on December 21, but here is an HDR image that was created using Celestron 9.25" f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain, Nikon Z7, Celestron AVX Mount, stacked frames from 5 x 1 min 2160p videos acquired at 30 fps with varying ISO gains (64, 100, 200, 400, 800), and postprocessed using PIPP, AutoStakkert, RegiStax, and Photoshop.

Thank you for visiting,
Steve

Wide field Orion
www.mattdieterich.com
Copyright: Matt Dieterich
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/507 ... 9e2b_b.jpg I've wanted to capture a long exposure of the constellation Orion to reveal many of the beautiful deep sky objects for quite a few years. The red emission nebulae surrounding Orion, such as Barnard's Loop, require dark night skies to be fully revealed. In this tutorial I will show you how to edit wide field astrophotography data of Orion and I hope this inspires you to attempt your own images of this stunning area! You can also download the Orion data in the video description to follow along and edit with me for practice.

EXIF
Modified Nikon Z6 and 50mm lens at f/3.2 ISO 1600 and ISO 3200. 24x4 min + 21x3 min = total 159 minutes. Skywatcher StarAdventurer for tracking.

Trains Graveyard with Milky Way
Copyright: Jheison Huerta
uyuni-train-low.jpg
I took this picture inside an old train graveyard in southern of Bolivia (South America).
These trains were used in the 1950s to transport minerals from Andes to Pacific Ocean
and now they are an attraction to remember those times.
I waited for the Milky Way core and Mars to compose with the main train.

Location: Uyuni, Bolivia
Altitude: 3600 mts
Date: 29th February 2020
Hour: 00:32 am
Single exposure
Camera: Canon 5D Mark IV
Lens: Canon 16-35mm f2.8
Focal Distance used: 24 mm
Aperture: F/ 2.8
Exposure: 15 seconds
ISO: 6400

Thanks,
Jheison Huerta

29 Dec 2020 from Danville, CA. The last full moon of 2020 and of the decade. It has definitely been a year unlike any other, but hopefully, we can ring in the new year with hope and joy. Here's to2021! Wishing you all a very HAPPY NEW YEAR! Canon 80D 1260mm focal length taken at a distance of 1800ft (550m) from my friends through a thin layer of clouds. The clouds scattered the light and I could see the moon illuminating the sky full 10 minutes before it crested the ridge. Planned with PhotoPills
