I would like to share with you my recent discovery of a large and faint nebula in the Triangulum galaxy, M33. I've been working on this project since 2021. Last fall, I gathered 153h of data and found an uncatalogued nebula. As I keep my collaboration with professional astrophysicists, I got in contact with them (Dr.Raúl Infante - CFCA and Judith Ardèvol - Barcelona University) in order to start the search in catalogues and articles and finally write the Research Note that has been published recently in the American Astronomical Society and also in ArXiv.

I would like to thanks Dr. Ignacio Trujillo and Dr. Jorge García Rojas from Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias for their early reply and help the first days after the discovery. Also to my friend adn astrophotographer Josep M. Drudis and to my wife Georgina Serven for all her support.

ABSTRACT:

We report the discovery of a previously uncatalogued arch-shaped filamentary nebula at
the outer part of the Triangulum galaxy (M33) centred at α = 1h34m25s, δ = +30◦20′17′′
(ICRS). This discovery stems from meticulous observations employing deep exposures of
M33, using both Hα and [OIII] narrow-band filters. The nebula, designated as Roig1 Prades
Sky, exhibits an Hα surface brightness of 23.9 mag arcsec−2. Its sky projected location is
21 arcmin away from the M33 galactic centre towards the southeast direction with an extent
of (120×440)±30 pc. Deep spectroscopic observations are required to unveil its real nature.

Congratulations on your discovery!

The galaxy portrait you created is of high quality and includes various other very interesting details.
I would therefore be happy to suggest you for the APOD as well.

Is there a reason why many foreground stars appear "dark" in front of the galaxy?
Is this just a result of the editing process, a function of purpose or an aesthetic choice?

Yes, that’s a processing choice to focus on nebulae.

Thanks for your comment.

I'm not surprised you discovered a new nebula with such a deep and beautiful photo, congratulations! I personally think it is a planetary nebula in our galaxy that shares the line of sight with M33.

A weird coincidence, a new PN discovery near NGC 2403 was announced recently.

OK. I agree that there must be something wrong...

Personally, I think the nebula is also in reality located in M33, but I can't say it's a planetary nebula, it's far too big for that. In addition, its shape would be extremely strange for a planetary nebula.
