Cloud Rays and Star Trails by Radical Retinoscopy, on Flickr

During the 81 exposures used to make this photograph clouds began rolling across the sky in a north to south direction. I made a composite image without the clouds but decided to include them in the final image. I like how the clouds appear to originate from a "radiant" to the northwest. This image was made of 81 twenty-second exposures taken with a Canon t2i. Each exposure was 20 seconds, 800 ISO, f/4.5 using a Sigma 10-20mm lens at 10 mm. Two exposures were taken at the end focusing on the plants in the foreground, stopping the lens down to f/22 and light painting the field. All images were stacked using StarStaX.

The clouds add a nice texture to the image, and the light painted foreground
adds depth and framing. Well executed, Marion!

Solar effects at sun rise

The picture was taken at "Pic du Midi" observatory in the south west of France.
The wind blowing from the valley is carying ice particles upward. Using a cupola of the observatory to mask the rising sun,
I captured this nice effect.

Harvest full moon and migrating birds
http://www.photon-hunter.de
Copyright: Levin Dieterle

Harvest full moon (29. September 2012 at 22:30 CEST) togetherwith two migrating birds flying south. During observation every 30-60 sec a bird crosses the disk of the full moon. It was rather challenging catching some exposures of these migrating birds because each of these transits last only about one second.

Jupiter Impact Composite Image
http://georgeastro.weebly.com/jupiter-impact-image.html
Copyright: George Hall
This is an image of the Sept. 10, 2012 Jupiter impact. The impact was first observed visually by Dan Petersen of Racine, Wisconsin who then posted his observation on the ALPO_Jupiter forum. George Hall, of Dallas, Texas, after seeing the post reviewed video that he had collected earlier and discovered that he had captured the impact on video. The image was made using Registax on the original 2 minute video and combining the resulting image with a single frame from the video that contained a good representation of the impact flash.

Northerne lights over the Jökulsárlón
http://astrophotography.fr/
Jean-Luc Dauvergne
Last week I was in Iceland and the biggest auroral activity occured when I was at the
Jökulsárlón. It means "glacial river lagoon" in Icelandic. The weather was nearly perfect. What a luck !
I think that this incredible place may be one of the most beautifull landscape in the world to photography with notherne ligths.

This lake is the interface between the biggest galcier in Europe (the Vatnajökull), and the ocean.

The show was amazing, green and red lights were easy to see with the naked eye.

A DC3 lost on the black sands of th e Islandic south coast
http://astrophotography.fr/
Jean-Luc Dauvergne
On novembre 24th 1973, this Dakota DC3 of the US Navy has been obliged to land in emergency on the south coast of Iceland.
The reason is that the plane ran out of fioul after getting lost in bad weather.
It's located in the Solheimasondur area at the feet of the famous Eyjafjoll volcano that erupted in 2010 and paralized all the aerial trafic over Europe.
I took those pictures on september 20th 2012.
