No, here is the appropriate place for that.

Meanwhile, the part that I think may be the chicken's head (the large orange cloud) looks like it might be a prime star-forming region.
I think you are talking about the APOD by Martin Pugh. Some low-mass star formation in the orange cloud can't be completely ruled out, but most likely this formation isn't making stars. The same formation in the APOD by Steve Crouch is barely visible, suggesting it is neither dark and cold nor glowing from within.
The infrared pictures at left shows a prime site of star formation, the Snake Nebula, in different infrared wavelenghts.

Now that looks more like a Left hand (sans ring finger) reaching to grab you.
The 3 bright regions to the right are the tips of the fingers

There will not be an APOD of it anytime soon, so this is as apropriate a place as anyone to query how do you take todays news of a hiherto undiscovered LARGE new planet in our solar system? Trick or treat?

There's nothing "unscientific" about an RGB image. It's just a different data presentation.
Obviously, Chris. It was a slightly childish comment, but I simply couldn't resist.
Not childish. And while perhaps it was obvious to you and me, it might not be to everyone. Thus the comment.

Wonderful image and this APOD is a great celebration of the fact that Martin Pugh has now been doing astrophotography for 10 years!! :D 8-)

Also find it interesting that the cluster is referenced as Collinder 249 in the description. I thought it was almost universally accepted that the cluster is IC 2948?

What are the estimated sizes of the dark molecular clouds? If the potential for them is to condense into stars, how big is the cloud beforehand? As big as our own solar system out to Pluto? Smaller? Even bigger?

The portrait by Steve Crouch of the Running Chicken Nebula was the APOD of April 18, 2008. Check it out here. It's fun to compare the two images.

Image Stars and Globules in the Running Chicken Nebula

Explanation: The eggs from this gigantic chicken may form into stars. The featured emission nebula, shown in scientifically assigned colors, is cataloged as IC 2944 but known as the Running Chicken Nebula for the shape of its greater appearance. Seen toward the top of the image are small, dark molecular clouds rich in obscuring cosmic dust. Called Thackeray's Globules for their discoverer, these "eggs" are potential sites for the gravitational condensation of new stars, although their fates are uncertain as they are also being rapidly eroded away by the intense radiation from nearby young stars. Together with patchy glowing gas and complex regions of reflecting dust, these massive and energetic stars form the open cluster Collinder 249. This gorgeous skyscape spans about 60 light-years at the nebula's estimated 6,000 light-year distance.
