if gravity brings the matter together to create stars, and the stars gravity well tends to increase, wouldn't it seem logical that the stars would merge? I would consider that the rotation around a center point would act to keep the stars separated due to the centripital movement of the stars which would tend to delay the process, but not necessarily forever. Is there something that I am not considering that would cause the stars to widen the distance between them?

maybe someone out there can venture an answer.

thanks
