Re: Aurora from Space, Don Pettit's.
What is the nearly perfect large radius circular cloud pictured in the foreground?
OH how priceless

On the link to "...big.jpg" I get a 56K (639x437) picture, a tad smaller than the original. Anyone know where the big one is?
Space Station Astrophotography, Astronauts onboard the International Space Station are capturing some amazing photos of the night sky.

Another route for finding more information about that image would be the Astronaut Photography of Earth - Display Record on a page simular to this one.

Astronaut Photography of Earth - Display Record

or even

The Gateway to Astronaut Photography of Earth

or better yet, try clicking on the image at the Astronaut Photography of Earth and it takes you to The Gateway....

Astronaut Photography of Earth - Display Record, ISS006-E-18372

That little bit of research should have only took you a few minutes.

Very nice, but where's the high-res version?

Dennis S asked;

I do believe that question is answered on the APOD document. It is also answered here in this thread. (It's not often a student gets to tell the Professor to "Read it", not just look at it. )

As to what exposure? Don may have that answer, ask him? :)

Aurora from Space ?

Anyone know what exposure time was used? The earth image looks slightly streaked, as if a long exposure time was used.

Thanks

Charlie

Yes, Don Pettit's picture of an amazing aurora over Quebec, also showing the Manicouagan crater.

Don had done some intriguing yet very simple science physics experiments in zero G.
Delightful reading.
