Speaking of arms and rings, have there ever been any artist illustrations of what Andromeda would look like from a face-on view like ours has been illustrated from a face-on perspective?

I was curious to know how thick vertically the asteroid belt was in terms of distance. Do spacecraft have a relatively safe passage through the belt on their way to explore the planets or do they have to hop over or under the belt to avoid a random collision?

Is it only in certain areas where these geysers are or are they located moon-wide? They can't be seen in the foreground at all, why would they be so fine and hard to see in the foreground? Could the rings of Saturn (and Jupiter) be "spent" remnants of moons that were eventually ground away...

for some reason i never thought saturn could be seen in real time like that from the vantage point of the moons orbit. is that real? then jupiter can be seen even better since it's closer and much bigger?

forgive my ignorance, but if it's 8000 light years away and it went off, wouldn't it take 8000 years to reach us? if it went off 7,999 years and 364 days ago, we could get it tomorrow, right? would we feel the effects much sooner than any light based images we are looking at now or the other way aro...

I've noticed thru the years of being an avid fan of APOD that photos that appear in their original format and sources are often opposite when they appear in APOD. I guess it doesn't matter in the grander scheme of life, but it's kinda annoying and i have to wonder why go thru the trouble of flipping...

Exciting discovery! i found it a little odd seeing a North/East legend on the photo. Is there a convention for north, south, east and west used in space? What kind of directional conventions are used for space or envisioned for space travel?

i spotted a mistake at the end of the paragraph, "the local galaxy group" should read as the Oyervides Group. I claimed it over these web site pages not long ago since it has gone without a name all these years!

is there a correlation between the number of times a bar makes a rotation with number of years? i'm assuming the trailing arms would be longer and the spiral would be tighter?
