Apod: A dark and stormy night

A beautiful photograph. Reminds me as a kid; wishing on a star. Mars and especially Venus were often the first visible stars at night.

todays APOD The Last Titan

What a beautiful view of a rocket launch. With booster technology not changing much over the years; why drop the Titan?

Does gravity have a speed? Is it constant? Seems like the greater the attraction the greater the acceleration toward it.

We did get a lot of miles out of that speck of dust;and away from the galaxy. But what is the yellow object below the dust. Doesn't really look like a star.

It may be a star; but I don't believe so. Its too fuzzy; unless a star in nova. Look at Makc's inset; it looks as though there are filaments associated around it. That makes me believe that the filament is associated with the object below it.

Could be makc; but look at the object below it. Looks like something is going on it's surface that could be related. I can't really tell.

It seems to be coming from the gold object below it. Could this be a galaxy with a stream of stars trailing? Or maybe a star in nova?

I noticed a reddish tint on top of the filament. I think the object would have to be enlarged a lot more to venture a guess as to what the this may be.

I clicked onto the high resolution picture of the galaxy. I didn't see the filament; unless the end of one of the spiral arms. I did notice a lot of galaxies in and around the galaxy. I also noticed a straight line going through the picture at about 4o'clock.

Left or right; I was always intrigued by the Orion Constellation as it is very easy to identify in the sky. The three blue stars in the belt do make a very awesome sight.

As meteors impact; the cleaner ice underneath probably gets exposed. It looks almost more like packed snow.

I don't think there is a limit to the size for a moon. The moons of Mars are both under 25 km.

APOD: Spiral Galaxy NGC 1350

There doesn't seem to be very much dust in this galaxy. This gives it a lot of transparency.

It is amazing how clear and in focus this photo is for a galaxy that is 64 million light years away. I wish we could get a 3-D image of this beautiful barrel galaxy.

I don't believe this galaxy is flat like other galaxies. It appears that the arm on the left is at an angle to the plane of the galaxy. It could be an optical illusion; but maybe it is the result of two galaxies that have merged.
