Re: APOD: Hubble's Messier 5 (2014 Apr 25)

I was wondering what the movement is of globular clusters. Being so compact is there a gravitational balance throughout most of the structure? Is there an axis of rotation of the entire cluster? There must be a pretty precise balance to keep it all from collapsing in on itself. Do the individual sta...

Great image. But backwards we go with size. Saturn V over 200,000 lb payload. We need to do more gun and run probes. Hold back on sending people for now. We need lots more data.

very useful analogy, thanks

an interesting footnote about scale: Empeda wrote: I found a good reference for the comparative distances/sizes at http://www.nineplanets.org: Imagine Earth the size of a grape. The moon would be a foot from the earth. The sun would be 1.5m in diameter and 150 metres away. Jupiter would be the size...

Size

In the Nov 9 APOD it was said that 40 earths could line up along the length of the solar prominence. That seemed to be way to few looking at the scale of the image. I would have thought may more. Did that seem like to small a comparason to any one else?
