There is a freeware program which will set you windows desktop to the current APOD every day.

I use it to see and learn something new everyday.

It took me a while but I noticed it too. I emailed the APOD guys and I was sent to this web site. It looks pretty good.

I sent email to the IAU home page.

That picture could end up in text books. Its lousy science. It seems all the astronomy discussion groups just want pretty pictures.
