I forget where i stole this... ""The old song goes: "Tell me why the stars do shine. Tell me why the ivy twines. Tell me why the skies are blue. And I will tell you why I love you." In response, an irreverent college student wrote: "Nuclear fusion makes stars to shine. Tropi...

Apologies in advance for expressing this particular pet peeve, But — Speaking of the Great Film, </SARC>, whoever came up with the line, “In your face, Neil Armstrong!” — How dare they? Andy Weir, Drew Goddard, Riddly Scott and/or Matt Damon — How did those armchair astronauts have the gall to mock ...

Just sticking my head in the door to say, "Thanks!"

We were totally socked-in here in the Southeast (zip, zero, nada, naught),

Outstanding — Reminded me of something.... ah, Here it is: Tell me why the stars do shine, Tell me why the ivy twines, Tell me what makes skies so blue, And I will tell you why I love you. Nuclear fusion causes stars to shine, Tropisms induce the ivy to twine, Tyndall-Rayleigh scatter makes the sky ...

Just a bit of trivia: In one of the early episodes of "Lost in Space," as Guy Williams is bouncing around outside the Jupiter 2 (tethered by what appears to be a borrowed clothesline)... There! In the background.... M16! (Somebody needs to notify Phil Plait they weren't really lost, <GRIN>)

I sat at my desk at the Climate and Radiation Branch, searched for 'Astronomy' in Alta Vista and there you were.

On Tuesday, June 20, 1995 I sat down at my desk for my first day as a Summer programming intern at GSFC. I fired up my Netscape browser and searched for ’Astronomy’ in AltaVista…. and what followed has been a daily ritual for nearly 17 years. I cannot fully express my appreciation for so very many f...

Re: The Holographic Principle (APOD 2009 September 13)

This might help: I recalled after about a minute that it helps to put your nose almost directly on the image and stare straight ahead. Yes, there's Some repetition, but what the heck. I like to go back to the early early APODs. I did a programming internship at the Climate & Radiation Branch at ...
