Re: APOD: 62 Kilometers above Comet... (2014 Sep 15)
Amazing picture. I wish if they describe the comet as coal-like in color they would have used those colors instead of some browns and tans. You don't have to make the comet look like 'home' you know. Also, where is this comet heading--swinging in toward the Sun? What is its orbit? It will be a fanta...

Re: APOD: Laniakea: Our Home Supercluster of... (2014 Sep 10
I often feel like I miss seeing the obvious when posting so here goes again. What does the little red arrow represent--its direction and location? There is no 'north' or 'up' or 'down'. Was there any reason orienting the 'picture' this way? According to the explanation our Milky Way galaxy would be ...

Re: APOD: Illustris Simulation of the Universe (2014 May 12)
Cool simulation and music. I have to wonder how realistic it is though. Even before reading that there are discrepancies in the model vs reality regarding star types and abundances, I recalled that, a few days ago, there was an APOD that mentioned that in star clusters, "the youngest stars are...

Re: Open Space Indeed--Questions For A Variety of 'Astronome
Regarding Pioneer 10 and 11... interesting. I never read of the explanation before. So the Voyager spacecraft experienced this same thermal radiation/acceleration? These photons are radiating toward the Sun thus accelerating spacecraft ever so slightly away from the Sun. I don't feel I can work my q...

Re: Strange Markings On Mars... Hale Region...
This is a final and last followup after discovering I was still tracking the thread but I have not been very active here for years now. Just wanted to say that as a result of my friends beliefs in conspiracies going much beyond any concerning Mars but including many on Earth we are no longer friends...

Re: Open Space Indeed--Questions For A Variety of 'Astronome
You might get a better response if you take it a bit more slowly and stay with one topic at a time. But anyway, I'm not sure why it takes such a stretch of imagination to hypothesize the existence of certain matter which doesn't interact with the EM spectrum. If it really exists, which it probably ...

Re: Open Space Indeed--Questions For A Variety of 'Astronome
How can anything be called matter or energy just because what we think is missing matter and energy is unaccounted for if you can't see or detect that matter or energy? By calling it matter and energy are we limiting ourselves by 'defining' something we know nothing about just because we need these ...

Open Space Indeed--Questions For A Variety of 'Astronomers'
If in ~ a trillion years the universe pulls itself apart into 'nothing' which I gather will include pulling apart atoms and subatomic particles... what will happen to black holes where all the matter that has entered ceases to exist because space/time gets caught up in a singularity of 'nothing'? Wi...

Re: APOD: The Seasons of Saturn (2013 Jul 21)
Well, let me just jump right in... It seems to me that the orientation of these pictures of Saturn or the description is 'backwards'. Isn't Saturn approaching summer in the southern hemisphere--not the northern hemisphere as described? The southern hemisphere is what is being exposed more to the sun...

Re: APOD: A Flight Through the Universe (2012 Aug 13)
(sorry if this is a duplicate - did see it appear after first attempt.) Wow that video is a lot to take in, i always get dizzy trying to comprehend images containing many light years field of view. I have a question : Apart from the relativistically impossible feat of travelling around those dimens...

Re: APOD: A Flight Through the Universe (2012 Aug 13)
Wow! I still get lost sometimes flying through our Milky Way with a Star Chart. Now I need a Galaxy Chart. Once you start flying through the cosmos which way is 'up'? How would your spaceship navigate so you could return home (if you only could)? Best to stay in the Milky Way. But I've got to wonder...

Re: APOD: The Light of Stars (2012 May 08)
I love APOD and will continue to use it but I would like to point out one inconsistency that I don't like. When there is a video like the current one, "The Light of Stars (2012 May 08) please do not automatically launch the video. I've used APOD as my browser home page now for years. I do not l...

Re: Strange Markings On Mars... Hale Region...
I was expecting/suspecting these results--and I'm just as glad it goes this way. The other way would have been so much more complicated--to actually have a Mars civilization. :) Thank you. I was thinking of posting this link back to my friend but it would serve no purpose. He is set in his ways and ...

Strange Markings On Mars... Hale Region...
How many times have you heard that one before? A friend is very much into conspiracy theories for everything unexplainable. He presented this to me the other day. I'm posting it here in the hopes that there is a scientific explaination for the effect or that it is a proven hoax of some sort even tho...

Re: APOD: M16: Pillars of Creation (2010 Mar 28)
It is a beautiful picture but I've often wondered with its popularity why the blank areas in the upper right have not been filled in? Now that Hubble is fixed up better then ever maybe it should revisit this?
