Re: APOD: Annular Solar Eclipse over Utah (2023 Nov 01)

I was delighted by this APOD, but many others have been very critical of it. I must defend my enthusiasm... Ann your point is well taken it is an inspiring picture the objection most have is that it is presented as a real picture i think a more accurate caption would have obviated the objections

Re: APOD: Annular Solar Eclipse over Utah (2023 Nov 01)

There is nothing about this image that remotely reflects the actual appearance of the event. It is synthesized from different times and different light levels in order to illustrate some aspects of the event that are not visible to the human eye. Do not attempt to analyze anything other than the ge...

Re: APOD: Annular Solar Eclipse over Utah (2023 Nov 01)

have to say i'm also pretty disappointed by the claim that the image of the moon is "real, but...artificially brightened" when it's clear that it was taken on a night at least 2 weeks distant from the event. perhaps the only redeeming feature is that the word " real " links to an...

Eclipse shot for Flag Day (6/14) my main concern setting up for the eclipse the night before was that this pole not block my telescopic view. Re: Submissions: 2018 March

Please consider this APOD submission in memory of my parents. perhaps for 3/23 or around Easter 4/16 here is my image of Abell 30, a born again planetary nebula who's central star re-ignited after turning into a white dwarf, creating a new system of complex knots of oxygen (blue-green) inside a matu...
