Re: Strange 22° Solar Halo

Did you have any filters in front of the lens? With or without a filter, I'd suspect some kind of streaking on the lens/filter surface, or sleeks, which are microscopic scratches (usually on coated surfaces) created when you clean them with too much pressure or not using a fluid. I've seen flare li...

Re: Strange 22° Solar Halo

Apologies for the late response. I wanted to do the experiment Chris suggested Try taking a test image with the same equipment using a bright, near point source- the Sun again, or something like a halogen light if you're indoors. and did today the same image (same position of the Sun, same camera, l...

Re: Strange 22° Solar Halo

Thank you owlice, You’re right about the air traffic: there is a lot of it, as you can see from this photo (another halo :D ), taken on May 4th: http://www.emilivanov.com/Other_Images/2012_05_04_Solar_halo_b.jpg The Sun was approximately at the same point of the Sky. But on this photo there aren't t...

Strange 22° Solar Halo

Hello everybody, I’m not sure where to post this topic. If the moderators find that this is not the appropriate place, please, move it. About one hour ago I took this picture of (strange?) 22° Solar halo: http://www.emilivanov.com/Other_Images/2012_05_23_Solar_halo_b.jpg Does somebody have an idea w...

Re: Recent Submissions: 2012 May 1-

Last night at about 22:30 I was just heading to bed when it began to thunder. I went upstairs to shut the window and saw a great lightnings. I quickly grabbed the camera and did not even had time to put it on the tripod, so I put it right on the window's ledge and started shooting. Here are two imag...

Re: Recent Submissions: 2012 March 15-17

Emnil Ivanov, you are one of my great favorites. I love how you show that there is a "gray bubble" inside the "spaghetti filaments of redness". The structure of this nebula is faintly, faintly reminiscent of the Crab Nebula, where there is also a blue-gray nebula "kept in p...

Re: Recent Submissions: 2012 March 3-

Emil Ivanov, that's a great-looking Jellyfish Nebula. You have brought out excellent structure in it, and I can discern a large red "S" in its twisting shape. Add the bluish area to the "S", and the nebula takes on a "yin-yang" shape. With the colors you have brought o...

Wonderful !!! I wish I was there :D . In the beginning ISS is overfliyng the US Pacific coast (at 0:16 LA just under the clouds), then Gulf of California, Mexico, Panama (0:31), then Equador and Peru (Titicaca see at 0:47, just before the siurise). Afterwards I can recognize at 0:49 the southeastern...
