Re: APOD: Cyclone Paths on Planet Earth (2021 Sep 15)

I'd really like to see a four maps, each one for a five year period to see if there is a systematic change in the paths. Any suggestions?

Re: APOD: Hayabusa2 Approaches Asteroid Ryugu (2018 Jun 25)

All pictures show view at nearly the same angle. Is that by by careful choice of pictures or because asteroid has very low angular momentum?

Can anyone tell me why the blue tint? If it's a blue shift, where does the energy come from? Are blue shifted spectral lines visible?

Re: APOD: A Raging Storm System on Saturn (2013 Apr 28)

I think of Saturn's rings as being mostly empty space -- that is a satellite could fly through them with only a relatively small chance of being hit by anything. So why do they cast such a dense shadow?

Why do all the synchrones meat at a point?
It would seem that they should end at points spaced by the daily apparent motion of the comet.

Re: APOD: Hurricane Irene Forms (2011 Aug 27)

Why can't I see any trace of the day night cycle in the time lapse of hurricane Irene? Even if this is thermal imagery superimposed on a static background image I would expect the cloud top temperatures to change overnight. What's going on?
