Re: APOD: Happy People Dancing on Planet Earth (2012 Jul 10)

I fail to see what dancing has to do with APOD, unless it's just another socialist angle  The video is a cogent expression that humans, as intellectual beings, share a common and profound thread between us across even radically different cultures and lifestyles ... That is, we all have joy...

Re: APOD: Happy People Dancing on Planet Earth (2012 Jul 10)

Wow, I am a bit dismayed over how much bile that some sour-hearted people are spewing onto the board over this video. After watching this video, how can you not be smiling inside? Geez. Step back. Take a breath. And lighten up. Certainly the topics of relevance and resources are worthy of discussion...

Re: APOD: Solar Flare in the Gamma ray Sky (2012 Mar 15)

And if the former is correct--that the sun emitted a billion times more energy in gamma rays than in visible light--it seems to me that the planet would be fried to a cinder! Yes, it would! The total energy of the gamma rays was only a fraction of the total energy output of the Sun. "Brightnes...

Re: APOD: Solar Flare in the Gamma ray Sky (2012 Mar 15)

I had no idea that solar flares could emit gamma rays. That totally surprises me, actually. I know that there are lots of gamma photons generated in the sun's core due to fusion going on there, but that makes sense because nuclei are so tightly bound and atomic level interactions are so energetic. T...

Re: APOD: Gravity Probe B Confirms Einstein (2011 May 10)

If the rest of the folks would appreciate what they are doing instead of trying to find fault and nitpick everything they do this world might eventually be a better place. One of the beauties of our scientific method is its inherent reliance on checks and balances. People are naturally wishful thin...

Re: APOD: MWC 922: The Red Square Nebula (2011 Mar 23)

 Well, another mystery at NASA. Is there anything that they can answer? Everything is a mystery, from this Red Square Nebula , to black holes, to how did the earth form. I would say NASA gets an F for science. Go back to school! Wow, that's a remarkable attitude. There are yet many gaps in hu...

Re: APOD: Cassini Approaches Saturn (2011 Mar 15)

The sentiment is nice, and the images are cool, but the video is not factually sound. Cassini does not fly the fantastical trajectories depicted by the animation and NASA generally doesn't fly spacecraft through the dense part of the rings. In fact, I don't believe Cassini ever passed through the ri...
