Re: APOD: Rainbow Airglow over the Azores (2016 Mar 22)
Ok, so what is the difference between atmospheric 'gravity waves' and atmospheric turbulence? From the "gravity wave" link in APOD: "Gravity wave From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Not to be confused with gravitational waves." and continues with a discussion of gravity waves....

Re: APOD: Two Black Holes Merge (2016 Feb 12)
In cosmology we're usually concerned with two measures of distance: light travel time and comoving distance. The meaning of the first is pretty obvious; the second describes the current distance to the point where the light was emitted, considering the expansion of space during that time. The two a...

Able to pick up something that happened in less than half a second, 1.3 billion years ago. simply amazing. I have wondered how black holes got rid of all that energy from the inflow of mass.

Art: thanks for the numbers. Had no idea about the neutrino production difference between the types of supernova. The distance factor makes even more difference though.

The APOD shows the comet to the right and above M101. The "telescopic two panel mosaic" link shows the same (?) picture but the comet is to the left and above M101. Which version would I see looking into the night sky with a telescope?

I would guess that Pluto's eccentric orbit results in a long cold, cold "winter" and a long less-cold "summer". Could result in freeze, thaw, evaporate, rain cycle of different materials throughout Pluto's year??

know a little about CMB, expansion, etc. Looked at the map, read the discussions. Still do not understand what the red in middle of the blue means. If we are moving in the direction of blue shifted areas, how are we moving away from the red area in the middle of the blue. Or is the red indicating so...

Art: thanks for the power spectra input. Unfortunately I am just an interested retired civilian. I have a little math background but too long ago. I'll need to do some research on your clips and comments for it to mean much to me. Something new to work on, at least for me.
