Here is an image I captured of Jupiter and Venus. You can see three of Jupiter's moons. To get the moons to show I did have to over expose the planets, making them appear larger than they are.

I wonder what the night sky would look like from a planet around one of the starts in the "bridge" compared to being around a star within the galaxy?

It looks like there are two "volcanos" within the crater. Both close to the rim. One at about 5:30 and the other at about 7:30. Were these the result of the impactor melting ice with in Mimas or other forces?

It would be interesting to see the interaction between the black holes at the centers of each galaxy during the collision.

Thank you, Ann, for your labelled version of this picture ! Without it I was confused. On a PC at least, mousing over the APOD image reveals the annotations. But I think this doesn't work right - or at all - on an iPad, for example. On my iPad, I was able to tap the image to reveal the annotations.

I think this is a wonderful image. Took some amazing planning, not just to get the Milky Way as a complete circle, but also to get terrain that matched in both half way around the world.

Fascinating image - much different than I expected the surface of a comet to look like.
