Re: APOD: When Black Holes Collide (2015 Oct 20)

Isn't it claimed that black holes are infinitesmially small points? If so how can they actually merge being zero radius? Maybe a merge just means they fall within their event horizons.

Re: APOD: Seasonal Streaks Point to Recent on... (2015 Sep 3

It looks to me like it could also be rocks crumbling and rolling down the side disturbing lighter colored dust on the surface. Since it is seasonal, perhaps the temperature change causes the rock to expand and contract which makes them crumble. Just a thought. I thought of crumbling darker sediment...

Re: APOD: Bright Spots Resolved in Occator on... (2015 Sep 1

And if there's not enough fuel to crash, how about a highly elliptical one for some dramatic close-ups? Would also be wonderful to produce some 3-d stereo images. Interesting pit to the left. I wonder what it looks like on the surface in the middle of the frost. Might it be smooth ice, powdered, or ...

Is it possible to see those sapphire jewels in 3-d by imaging in opposite seasons? That would be amazing. Sometimes when I'm looking through an eyepiece it almost seems to have depth, so even he slightest hint of it would be something.

Re: APOD: One-Armed Spiral Galaxy NGC 4725 (2015 Apr 16)

Leading or trailing arms? That seems so counterintuitive... But what does a brain know. Maybe there's inner and outer shells of matter that have significantly different angular momentums, causing this effect, possibly from previous galactic mergers. Keep in mind that the spiral structure is largely...

I like the crimson tree as much as the constellation, always nice to blend the near and far to ground you and extend what may be out there

Beautiful image, but I find the upper left corner really interesting, with a feeling of depth given the layers of clouds almost appearing like mountainscapes.
