Re: APOD: Flying Over the Earth at Night II (2021 Apr 23)

At about 14 seconds, it appears that a small spot of light lifts from the surface, at the upper right side, and goes into space. It is too far from the horizon to be one of the stars that appear to rise there. Did anyone else notice that or is it just an illusion?

Re: APOD: Comet NEOWISE and Nebulae (2020 Jul 20)

For the past few days, I have seen some good pictures of the comet. These are all Earth based pictures. I wonder if we would be able to see some closeup pictures of the comet body in space.

Re: APOD: All the Water on Planet Earth (2016 Sep 11)

Many years ago, I had a theory about how the atmosphere and the water on planet Earth had managed to remain after the sun ignited and the stellar winds blew and cleared a wide circle around the sun. My theory is not really scientific, but I believe that it is true. In the Bible I read about the firm...

Hi
This might seem like Penny talking to Sheldon but that picture of the large cloud looks to me to be a big bang in progress.

The ISS and a Colorful Moon

The picture of the moon on 2015 July 31 is really a beautiful picture. Thousands of impact craters can be seen clearly in this picture. I was wondering, however, do we ever take any pictures of the impacts as they happen? Surely some impacts must have been observed and photographed over time. If not...

Re: APOD: Nearby Spiral Galaxy NGC 4945 (2015 May 28)

This is a very good clear picture and it boggles the mind to think about it. One has to wonder, however, if it is possible to make such a picture as this, why do we never see clear close up pictures of the Moon, especially the back side. I would think that the entire surface of the moon would have b...
