van den Bergh 14 and 15 are a pair of reflection nebula located in Camelopardalis, close to Sh2-202 (which is edging into the right hand side of the frame). vdB 15 (to the south) has an interesting pinkish/yellow component to it - it provides a real challenge in getting both the colour and saturatio...

Great picture, coatesg! Is the galaxy the small gray diffuse smear at far right? Thanks :) Yes, well spotted - it's PGC168300 glowing at mag(B) 16.2. The whole area is quite low on the number of catalogued background galaxies - maybe not surprising as we're viewing through the disc of the Milky Way.

LBN534 and VdB158 in Andromeda LBN534 (Gal 110-13) is a large, faint dust cloud, extending for about 1.5 degrees across northern Andromeda. It looks like a large cosmic tick in this orientation. LBN534 contains the blue reflection nebula VdB 158 , illuminated by HD222142, which is located towards t...

Re: Submissions: 2018 August

It is a well-known fact that the striking Coathanger itself is not a real cluster but an unrelated asterism of stars at widely different distances from us. But in your picture there is a "line" of stars "above" the Coathanger, seemingly divided into two groups, that seem to be e...
