When I clicked on the "Discuss" link in today's APOD, my browser went to yesterday's discussion.
Did that happen with anyone else?

Re: APOD: Moon Setting Behind Teide Volcano (2020 Mar 22)

Can someone please explain the giant Luna through a telescopic lend part? Did the people there see an ordinary sized moon? And does the lens type affect the apparent speed also? It has nothing to do with the lens, and only the relative distance between the observer, intermediate objects, and the Mo...

Re: APOD: A Black Hole Disrupts a Passing Star (2020 Mar 24)

I wonder about the large gap of undisturbed sky between the black hole and the seemingly serenely orbiting puffs of gas and dust that encircle it. Ann I think the (common) dust and gas are "smart enough" to keep clear of the Black Hole, but the "celebrity" (star) isn't. B^) http...

Is the "bump" off to the right a satellite / dwarf galaxy? Star formation in M77.png You mean this bump? That's a region of star formation. You can see a few blue star clusters inside, surrounded by red gas structures. A whitish patch "below" the blue star clusters shows where b...

Has Millet accurately rendered a particular group of stars? Or is it just a star-like spatter of paint? So, when a 1st stage (intended for re-use) splashes into an ocean, would the engines have cooled off enough to keep them from being damaged by contraction? Re: APOD: Star Trails of the North and South (2020 Feb 12)

Taking in account the present precession of the Earth, is there a bright star that marks (scribes) the Celestial Equator? Orion straddles the celestial equator, and Mintaka (the northernmost of the belt stars) sits just 19 arcmin south of the equator (compared with Polaris, which is over 30 arcmin ...

Most decent modern DSLR (or similar) cameras can take very nice Milky Way shots. Use as high an ISO setting as the camera supports without getting too noisy (which has gotten pretty high on many cameras- 3200 or more), shoot as long of exposures as you can without getting star trailing- with a mode...
