A great APOD, especially the click-through version. It's good to get back to Mars.

Thank you Robert and thank you Sirgurdur. This is definitely nicer. And thanks for the explanation. We appreciate your work.

It's a striking picture and I'm glad it was used. I'm also glad most of the APODs don't have copyright symbols on them.

The tail direction here is corrected but the APOD description is still wrong; up and to the left.

Re: APOD: The Tidal Tail of NGC 3628 (2012 Jul 06)

I'm with Beyond; the tail I see is pointing down. It was up and to the left in the April 8, 2005 APOD.

And it is a nice picture. However the version in the "Not often imaged" link is spectacular.

Re: APOD: NGC 4565: Galaxy on Edge (2012 Jul 05)

A pretty shot and very well done I think.

I recommend that APODs be chosen more frequently from the detailed shots of Mars taken from orbit; we don't see very many of them here and they are fascinating.

Re: APOD: The Outer Shells of Centaurus A (2012 Jul 01)

I take it there's a problem with the usual APOD computer. Nothing serious I hope.

This is a great APOD, btw.

It is certainly a striking picture taken with either a lot of luck or some good planning. Short on astronomical knowledge but timely and fun to see. Good APOD.

Not for me it isn't. The monuments are man-made. The aurora is natural, and well-explained, not supernatural.

Re: APOD: A Dangerous Sunrise on Gliese 876d (2012 Apr 29)

... If M-type red dwarfs are equally good hosts for life as G-type stars like the Sun, then we have indeed beaten the odds by being in orbit around a G-type stars like the Sun instead of an M-type red dwarf like Gliese 876. I think it is just too improbable that an unusual star like the Sun would b...

Quick reply: Why Not?

And I'm curious about the philosophy/religion behind your "let's reach into a tub and find a planet for humans" model of why we're here. "Here" being on earth around the sun, not "in existence".

Re: APOD: Flowing Barchan Sand Dunes on Mars (2012 Apr 22)

It's a great APOD. It seems to me there must be enough pics of Mars of different natures that we could have more of them and fewer of the earth pics that bother some folks a lot and me at times. Anyway I was intrigued by the claim these guys could pass through each other. I looked around and found t...

Another great APOD; my congratulations to the provider. Now I hope neufer or someone can point me to an understandable explanation of how a dying star can produce a barrel-shaped nebula. Surely the axis of the barrel must be the star's axis of rotation, and I can see material preferentially being ex...

I agree Flase. The screen-filling version I get on the first click is very good but the zoomed-in, largest version is grainy and hazy, and a smaller biggest version would be better if that were convenient. But it's a great APOD.

It's a great picture and geographical events are automatically astronomical events (if not for you, at least for 99.9999999+% of the inhabitants of the universe)
