You forgot the lens flare, John. Everything in space has a lens flare before it explodes in a fiery inferno.

It just means carbon compounds. If they meant some kind of substance from a living organism it'd probably be the top headline in the news for weeks.

Your bio states that you are 55. craterchains, do aliens periodically abduct some of your punctuation keys and then return them to you mid-sentence at times? Seems as though this would be a likely explanation for your use of commas in the beginning and ending of sentences rather than the usual punct...

Hehe, it is actually not too hard, assuming you know how... but it would kinda suck to use this old forum software for it though since it's MUCH harder to deal with than new one they've been working on. I've been working with PHPBB3 and it's fantastic. Not only does it have a lot more useful admin f...

Today this image caught my attention because I noticed the features in the photo craterchains put in this thread were also clearly visible in it. Now, surely someone else has already noticed this, but, assuming that it is dark on light, it seems to have been traveling in some direction when it lande...

The thing I don't understand is why the edges seem so crisp. It's so weird.

But if you invert the image, it starts to feel as though the white of the inverted image covers the black of the inverted image, which is opposite of how it looks in the original. It might be a kind of human tendency to stick with what we are used to, which is snow covering dirt. It is very easy to ...

I enjoy them. I think sometimes they run out of astronomy ones and end up rehashing older ones from time to time. I say using a really neat photo of very loose or questionable relevance is a little better than rehashing. Just as long as it doesn't happen too commonly. I am a little surprised to have...

It's a good thing gravity is instant or we'd be arguing whether it actually happens or not too. hehe. Or maybe I should say we would be arguing about it much more... I'm sure someone out there has found a way to argue with gravity.

Wow, I didn't expect to see the APOD forum using global warming as a catch-all explanation for every seemingly inexplicable occurrence too. :?

Haha, I want to believe it is there too, but I dunno, I was cautious in thinking maybe I was wishing it into existence. I mean, I see this very noisy rainbow in the best attempt but I couldn't rule out that it was just me wanting it to be there.

I have also registered just for this particular photograph. Hello. :) At first I thought I may have been imagining the fourth rainbow on the left, or maybe it was some odd cloud or rainfall. So I took a portion of the area suspected of having the rainbow and equalized each of the color channels to b...
