Hey Ron, speaking of humming birds, i got to briefly see a little one this morning. They sure are cute! But i don't have anything poetic to put to it. I'd rather just watch 'em.

They are quite cute and we will miss them. A lot cuter than my attempt at "poet-try". I'd love to post pictures. It would get my point across much more effectively but that's not poetry either. How would one edit a previous post? Best I can do now is a re-post another version.

Homes Are for Leaving

Why do we move from our homes
Just as we start to settle in
Then we feel way too crowded
This is when leaving begins

We all know the want to go
From within our Mothers
She wants it too
We’ve become quite a bother

Then comes the crib
Such a great place
Full of our toys
But soon it’s all “gate”

Next it’s the floor
Such a dimension to scamper
We leave it as fast
As we see there’s a hamper

The first time we head
Away from the home
It’s off to a place
To fill up the noodle

Then away from the parents
The teen-agers depart
Their peers are more interesting
And that - it does smart

As life ages us
We need to coalesce
With those who do fill us
With similar successes

Makes me wonder
If mankind has a similar whim
Head off from Earth
To the stars we go then

Ron, as geckzilla said, you have a 24 hour window to do so. Just scroll to your post and click the EDIT button. Your post pops up like you were just doing it. Then you can edit it just as you would if you were just making it and discovered you made a typo. IF someone has posted after you already, it will show an edit at the bottom of your post when you re-post it. If no-one has posted after you as yet, than it won't. IF you want to see what your post looks like before you post it, click Preview, that's just to the left of submit.
So, if you don't see any mistakes when you write your post, and you don't see any mistakes when you Preview it, but you see mistake(s) after you post it by hitting submit... then you need glasses.

THE EARTH HAS BEAUTY

The Earth has beauty everywhere,
filled with magic in the air.
Just listen to the gentle wind,
that helps the weary soul to mend.

The Earth has beauty, if you have eyes,
just watch the majestic sun to rise.
Watch the twinkling stars at night,
guide the sleepless dreams in flight.

The Earth has beauty, listen well,
the babbling brook cast it's spell.
The lone wolf howls across the land,
and the deserts silence on pebbled sand.

The Earth has beauty, feel the call,
of the towering mountains tall.
In of a field of poppy flowers,
in a moment of springtime showers.

Milk

We'll all be thirsty soon.
No water on our Moon.
No water on Mars.
No water between the stars.
No galaxies but our own.

There are the rushing waves
mountains of molecules
each stupidly minding its own business
trillions apart
yet forming white surf in unison

Ages on ages
before any eyes could see
year after year
thunderously pounding the shore as now.
For whom, for what?
On a dead planet
with no life to entertain.

Never at rest
tortured by energy
wasted prodigiously by the Sun
poured into space.
A mite makes the sea roar.

Deep in the sea
all molecules repeat
the patterns of one another
till complex new ones are formed.
They make others like themselves
and a new dance starts.
Growing in size and complexity
living things
masses of atoms
DNA, protein
dancing a pattern ever more intricate.

Out of the cradle
onto dry land
here it is

atoms with consciousness;

Venus
There is a misty sky
in which there aren't stars
only a powerful bright star lights
in the west after sunset.
Is the goddess of Romans
that splendid through the sky
casts its light like a beacon powerful
Then, in the east it appears
a Moon "quasi " full
that moves in the direction of the goddess
and there is a eclipse
But, something can outshine Venus
the goddess of love?
While the Sun shine
her reign in heaven
as bright star of the dawn

in my defense mine follows the exact format of the original, and makes sense. I'll refrain in the future to be creative if it upsets.

your right of course. in my mind i was countering the atrocious. Mom read poetry to me b4 bed until i was 5. It comes easy for me.

NASA is inviting poets and space-afficionados to pen their best haiku to celebrate the voyage of MAVEN: a spacecraft that will leave Earth in November to study the Martian atmosphere. Managers of the MAVEN-voyage began accepting haiku submissions on May 1 and they will continue to accept haiku submissions until July 15th. From July 15th to July 29th, NASA will allow the public to vote for its favorite three submissions. On August 8th, NASA will announce the three haiku that garnered the most votes.

NASA plans to display all three poems on the MAVEN website—and to give the poems three spots aboard the MAVEN spacecraft, which will launch in November.
