Any Math Geeks wanna earn $100,000

Post by BMAONE23 » Thu Nov 19, 2015 6:28 pm

Doug Keenan has posted a challenge... Anyone that can accurately identify at least 90% of the 1000 series' as trended or not trended, and is willing to pay $10 US to find out if they did or not, will be given the sum of $100,000 US if successful.
I'll wager he is banking on having at least 10,000 entries so there is no out of pocket expenses. And probably at least double that to be able to pocket a similar amount himself.

Looks like some kind of shady global warming denial to me... if no one submits anything he gets to go on saying he's right and if a few people submit entries he makes some dough. He doesn't really say how to send him the money, though. Seems he's not expecting to get much of a response.

I decided to look into Keenan and it seems that he's been trying to discredit and accuse climate scientists of misconduct for nearly a decade by now, if not more. His accusations are made on the basis that he simply disagrees with a published paper and then he goes on to accuse the authors of willful misconduct without going through the normal process of writing his own paper to demonstrate why he thinks he's right and the other authors are wrong. So far all have been either dismissed without inquiry or exonerated. This guy is not worth my time.

You're probably right about that. He quite likely would claim that you only identified 899 instead of 900 out of 1000 and won't be considered as successful
