Astroinnova

Re: Video Submissions

Post by Astroinnova » Tue Jun 17, 2014 7:42 pm

One year Ago, the Sunrise Telescope landed at Bootnia peninsula (Canada). It took off from Esrange (Sweden) to study the Sun, carrying with it an unusual instrument called IRIS (Image Recorder Instrument for Sunrise). IRIS had been made by an amateur group of enthusiasts of astronomy and sciences from Daedalus project, which is the most important project of Astroinnova association.
The mission of this instrument was to record the ascent, the descent and the landing of the Sunrise II telescope, and to make a time-lapse of the journey through the stratosphere from the base of Esrange (Sweden) to Bootnia peninsula (Canada) flying over Norway, the North Atlantic, Greenland and the North of Canada.

This video is the result of more than a year of hard work of a small amateur group that had the chance of collaborate in this international mission.

Hi! I've been viewing APOD for a while now but didn't realise there was a forum. Hopefully I'll be able to get involved in some good discussions in the future!

I also thought you'd be interested in this video, taken of the Sun from the SDO and selecting the highlights from over the course of this year. Reminds me of watching a camp fire! Just as relaxing. Anyways thanks!

It's my new timelapse "Another Night", entirely realized at Reunnion Island.
Do not forget to increase the sound, so you can enjoy the beautiful music. I'm very lucky, it was composed especially for the event by Benoit Reeves. Fascinated by the stars, like his father, he is also an excellent musician.

A Starry Night of Mauna Kea Observatory

Post by kwon o chul » Wed Aug 20, 2014 5:02 pm

The 4,200 meter high summit of Mauna Kea in Hawaii houses the world's largest observatory for optical, infrared, and submillimeter astronomy.

From sunset to sunrise, you can see many stars.
And also can see zodiacal light, airglow, belt of venus.
Find these!

=> en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zodiacal_light
=> en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_glow
=> en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth%27s_shadow

I used Canon 5D mark III, 24mm f/1.4L II lens. with soft focus filter.

What is the real feelings of aurura?
See this comparison of real time and time-lapse.

Real movement can be seen from the real time video.
Aurora moves faster, as it become brighter.
But 1/30 sec shutter speed of movie mode is not sufficient for capture the real colors of aurora color.
With faint aurora, the cones in our eyes does not see the colors.
Our eyes can see the colors of aurora after the brightness of aurora reaches the active range of the cones.
When very bright aurora comes, real feelings about color become similar in time-lapse.
