The Lagoon & Trifid Nebulae
http://www.flickr.com/photos/terryhanco ... hotostream
Copyright: Terry Hancock Shot over 10 nights from my backyard observatory in Fremont MI, using a small 4 inch refractor and monochrome CCD with Red, Green, Blue, Luminance and H-Alpha filters. This target for me is only 22 degrees above my horizon at it's peak making imaging this target fairly difficult and limiting my exposure times to under 2 hours each "clear" night of shooting. Total Exposure time 7.5 hours.

Iris and the Scorpion

This is a three panel mosaic stretching from NGC 7023 (Iris Nebula) to LDN 1148 in the constellation Cepheus. I captured this field over two nights at the Okie-Tex star party near Kenton, OK on Sept 10-11, 2012. The wind became a bit of a challenge, but the dry, dark skies there are wonderful!

"Beam Me Up"

Dark skies + long exposure + head torch on a string = fun under the stars.

Here is Jupiter on the morning of Sept. 13, 2012 as one of its more recently developed anti-cyclones, Oval BA (often referred to as "Red Spot, Jr."), is transiting past the atypically pale, faded GRS ("Great Red Spot") as it does approximately every 2 years. Jupiter's Equatorial Band is also showing an interesting band of color that has been absent for a number of years; and after nearly disappearing last year, the Norther Equatorial Band has returned and grown in a manner that has not been seen for nearly 100 years.

360 degree Milky Way 871mp 24 image mosaic

Post by gregbradley » Mon Sep 17, 2012 6:27 am

http://upload.pbase.com/gregbradley/ima ... 0/original 24 image 360 degree mosaic of the Milky Way taken at a dark site in NSW Australia.

There is also some zodiacal light streaming up from the set sun below the horizon and you can see the Large and Small Magellanic clouds.

Greg.

Picture taken from the Stellisee lake with the Matterhorn (swiss alps), star trails, perseids and the lights emitted by the climbers headlamps who attempt the climb to the summit.
About 4,5 hours on the night of August 10 (2012), the image is a composite of 350 consecutive 45-sec exposures, looking toward S-W with last quarter moon.
