Rendering of WISE j224607.57-052635.0, the brightest galaxy

Post by luxorion » Sat Aug 22, 2015 1:35 am

Hi,

Here is a rendering of the most luminous galaxy in the Universe just discovered, WISE J224607.57-052635.0.
Its luminosity is ~3.3x10E14 Ls (note that IC 1101 with is 10E14 Ms is close to this record too).

Located at 12.5 billion l.y, WISE J224607.57-052635.0 belongs to the "extremely luminous infrared galaxies," or ELIRGs, and probably contains a hypermassive black hole of billion of solar masses.
