DOUBLE HELIX NEBULA

Post by BMAONE23 » Thu Mar 16, 2006 10:09 pm

This color enhanced infrared image of the double helix nebula

http://www.space.com/php/multimedia/ima ... UCLA%0D%0A

shows what I believe to be one of those forementioned "Super Giants" at the 4:00 position but I have to wonder, what is the halo of 12 points of light surrounding this huge star? (there is another at 6:00)

If you look closely; many of the stars in that photo have a similar halo. I believe it may be an unusual lens effect.
