Ultra Deep Field question...

Post by Black wHole » Fri Jul 22, 2005 6:45 pm

This may seem pretty dumb to all the pro astronomers and physicists but I have been dying to learn the answer.

In the Hubble Deep Fields could we be taking an actual image of the Milky Way when it was in its infancy? It would seem that during the 11-13 billion year travel time of those photons that galaxy could now be anywhere and even our galaxy???

Time travel by telescope!

Post by craterchains » Sat Jul 23, 2005 2:33 pm

Yes! Time travel by telescope is what we experience when looking out away from earth. As the light for the image is traveling at about the speed of light it does take time for us to receive it here on earth. Thus we see what was happening at Alpha Cen. about 3.8 years after it really happened.
