The Coat Hanger (APOD 12 Jan 2007)

It appears to me in the photo of "The Coat Hanger" that some sort of arc can be seen. It starts at the top about one third in from the right and progresses down to the right, exiting at approximately the lower right-hand corner. Any explanations? --Blane C.

It looks like an optical effect of the lens. The swipe seems to form one arc of a circle. That is, if you continue that arc in the same general curviness, it will meet up with itself. I am betting that at the center of that circle is going to be a very bright star.
