Outdoor Glance, an invitation for a peek out of the box
Outdoor Glance, an invitation for a peek out of the box:
• Legend: Photography and editing: © Matheus Gomes. Soundtrack: Ludovico Einaudi – Divenire. Locations: Brazil/Campinas, Cunha, Parque Nacional de Itatiaia, Paraty, Pico do Itaguaré, Analândia, Ibitiura de Minas, Urubici, Jacutinga and Extrema. Chile/Torres del Paine. Argentina/El Chalten. Acknowledgement: GOASA
• Description:
Outdoor Glance is a time-lapse video that brings together landscapes natural tourist regions of Brazil, Chile and Argentina. Traces of stars and until sunsets that envelop the whole horizon, the records were made in the course of two years.
Early on, the Sun's rays illuminate rocky landscapes, later, the stars become the protagonists of the heavens, at times in conjunction with the majestic milky way, where all the celestial south hemisphere. “Never became repetitive, mind wouldn't let me stay in a single thought and opened in an amazing way”, said the photographer.
The project was developed from an enthusiasm that emerged by time-lapse (a photographic technique to capture movement), whenever there was a chance to be photographing in new locations, the author preferred to single out a time for the time-lapse, which became something very pleasant, so being able to make better use of the time to contemplate the landscape.
“Keep watching the sky and see the Milky milky way with its clusters of stars, it was something magical”. There were early difficulties, several complications such as equipment of physical conditions.
“There was the need to walk with a set of cleaning and face unfavourable situations to clean the camera sensor, sleepless nights, long walks with equipment, hunger, cold, lack of water, adverse weather, unexpected situations were common”.
“It was disheartening at first, but it didn't make me give up, all these obstacles were making that desire more fun and helped to give more value to the simple things in life”.
Outdoor Glance is an invitation for an escape from everyday life, demonstrating that life is much more than just “routines”. The observatory presented is the Campinas Municipal Observatory Jean Nicolini, tribute to the brazilian astronomer Jean Nicolini (1922-1991), is the first municipal observatory of Brazil, opened in January 15, 1977.

Auroras in real-time video
Hello, I was in northern Norway in October with the Sony A7s and we had 3 fantastic auroral nights with an incredible variety of shapes and behaviors. At moments they were so fast that 25 frames/s was almost not enough! In real-time video, the stars twinkle and the trees move in the wind.
The short movie (8 min):
The long one (20 min) with more and longer sequences:
Some snapshots from the videos:

Iridium flares in real-time
Hello
usually Iridium flares are photographed in long exposures, last summer I have filmed 3 of them in the Big Dipper and Orion (over a pond that reflects the flare), with the Sony A7s at 12800 iso(!). This new camera shows a very low noise, the best level of all existing DSLRs.
In video you can see the real speed of the flares

Re: Video Submissions
Hi,
here is my submission for APOD/video, my latest film, a 4min compilation of realtime video done of the northern lights in Norway.
This is how the aurora really looks, not like most time-lapses which moves way too fast.
Most of the time auroras move slowly and majestic, however, occasionally, if you are lucky, you will witness an enormous corona or a furious fast display, like I did, and captured on real-time film - Such a displays are rare to witness, even worse to fasten on film, and would be impossible to display using still image/time-lapse.

Yaogan triplets
Hello
Yaogan triplets are Chinese reconnaissance satellites flying at 1100km in groups of 3 separated by about 100km (5°). Here are two triplets taken with the Sony A7s, Yoagan 16 A/B/C passing over M31, the Pleiades, the Hyades, the Orion nebula, with a flare at the beginning. Second is Yaogan 20 A/B/C passing over M31 just before disappearing in the shadow of the Earth.

Varying airglow hard to deal with but you can still see the disconnected tail moving back and a bright ray form at about 2 o'clock from the nucleus.

An animation I made with 24 mosaics of comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko taken between 19 November and 3 December 2014. Each mosaic is composed of 4 NavCam pictures. These images were taken while Rosetta was in a 30-km orbit around the comet. Once on Flickr, to see the animation, click on "Download this photo" then on "View all sizes" then on "Original".
